I hope you remember me. You found my family in Jaklovce Slovakia. I reached out and we have connected.
I wanted to let you know that you helped me with my trip to meet my family. I so appreciate everything you did for me. The trip was short but more than I anticipated. My family seems very nice. I was treated exceptionally well by them.
I think I should plan another trip there, a longer one. I learned so much and met so many family members. It was a trip of a lifetime!

For my fellow Rusyn - and/or Slovak-Americans! If you need help in Slovakia with genealogy research (in archives or on-site in your villages of origin), finding your cousins, with translations, getting photos/videos of your family homestead, tombstones, etc., I can HIGHLY recommend Martin Hyross!
He's a recently retired business executive who has been SO helpful with my efforts in Slovakia, especially on the two occasions when we brought 40 Americans who had roots in Osturňa over there. He worked side by side with me on the world's first geographical genetic genealogy project, serving as an actual translator, but more to the point, a cultural translator. He also helped with all the troubleshooting that comes along with large group travel in a foreign country (this person missing their flight, that car accident, this person going in the hospital, etc.).
I promise that if you've been thinking of hiring someone on the ground in Slovakia, you'll be more than happy if you choose to work with Martin!

On our July visit to Legnava, we prayed with relatives in the village church, St John the Baptist, built 1883!
We walked the roads of the village, now appx 60 people (once 600 people) and visited the village cemetery. Maria cooked a lunch feast for all of us! We laughed, cried, shared many stories, and viewed albums of photos. All this celebrating took place on our ancestral property (home has been rebuilt on property.) Within this short visit we have come to cherish our dear family in the beautiful mountains of Slovakia!
